LACRYMOBOY’s new album, Absentia, is emotion filled music without prominent harmonic structures. The album that hardly contains any discernible equal tempered melodies, apart from the beeps from a heart monitor and occasional bells, paints vivid pictures with sound and takes the listener on a sensory journey. The worlds that the music constructs are not forced with excessive reverbs or delays – a standard feature of creating a feelings of space with sound – but through careful panning and precise mixing. The main ingredients in the relatively dry soundscape include low bitrate buzzing, swooshes of wind, white noise patterns and synthesized voices that rhythmically layered together produces a multidimensional field of sound. Although the music is produced to support the contemporary dance performance of the same name, LACRYMOBOY’s album stands as a work of art also on its own two feet.
